New [Post-foetus] DJ beats from the archive of Will Wiesenfeld. Recommended for fans of the Field aka highly recommended. Very soothing to play a speech or audiobook over. Will recently played a show at the Roxy supporting Super Mash Bros, make sure to catch him with the po-fo band at FMLY’s Beach Dazed.
Unofficial video for Best Coast’s “Sun Was High (So Was I)” put together by Pat Vamos whom we’ve blogged about in the past. Guy has a knack for knowing great tunes and putting together visual correlation.
“Summer is here and something about it just seems to take years off. You feel 18 again while biking with friends at night, swerving on and off the sidewalk down Kent Ave, or driving to Rockaway Beach with the windows down and your crappy stereo turned up. But the best part is while you’re turning those years back you can shed off some of that bullshit that’s been building up on your shoulders and weighing you down. Just take everything a few steps back, put on some music that you hold close, and make this summer all about you.” – Matt and Kim
I picked home one last souvenir from South America, it’s called the H1N1 virus. Wrongfully known as the Swineflue.
I was crossing the Atlantic when things started getting really bad, the fever was hallucinogenic and shaking me like a leaf and I grabbed the sleeve of the Air France steward. “I’m not feeling well, I should see a doctor” I said and the reply came as a brilliant mix of death anxiety and french rudeness: “Uh, yes… Terminal D… go there maybe… when we land”. After that the stewards and stewardesses took long detours. A ring of empty seats formed around me. Peoples eyes were kind but determined, they read “Poor you, I really wish you all the best but if you come near me or my kid I will have to stab you with this plastic fork”. I got up and went to the bathroom where I fainted.
Now I’m in quarantine for ten days. I can see the summer through my window and it’s just perfect. Summer is always best through a window. [via
Alright, so Jens Lekman is not dead, but he does have swine flu so according to American news these go hand in hand, correct? Hope not. Don’t swine and dine! Bacontagious! Get well soon Jens.
I personally never caught on to the “Jizz In My Pants” phenomenon, so this is either way overdue or just much tighter…I’m going with the latter. Superpowerless has recently become an 8bit interest of mine, creating simple pop melodies that are fun to dance or just listen to and these videos of his are spot-on. This has definitely become one of my favorite things on Youtube, even beats the dog taking a shit on a baby.
Big ups to Alex Ito for this first edition of the Beach Dazed flyer. We’ve known Alex for about five years now and come August he’ll be joining me in New York while attending Pratt. And as you can see our FMLY baby is growing up, next thing you know it may be traversing space.
Tickets for Beach Dazed are on sale as of today! They are currently $25, but the price will be raised as we approach July 18 so purchase them now. For every ticket bought a tree is planted, and these tickets are also made from hemp. We have some pretty sweet special guests to be announced and a secret headliner that I’m so fucking pumped to see – I’ve only caught a DJ set of his, and we all know that doesn’t do the man justice.
Beach Dazed is a twelve hour event taking place at Out of Asia on July 18. The Ice Cream Man will be stopping by with free ice cream and we’ll be partying it up all day with slip ‘n’ slides, water balloon fights, a pool, local artists, great food, ky wrestling (fingers crossed), and a ton more everything tba that is sure to make a splash in yo’ summer so don’t forget to rep your favorite swimwear!
Some FRNDS coming out for Beach Dazed include Voxtrot, Railcars, [Post-foetus], Pizza!, Haim, Alligators, an 8bit DJ set by Your Majesty and many others. Get your tickets here and RSVP here.
The fire hath cometh – thronging crowds of people lined up to a day which was suppose to have double the attendance of the previous day. I was prepared to hack my way through bros and e-tards like Marlow through the dank and desolate jungle of Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. I had gotten to Exposition Park right as Cosmic Gate was starting at 6pm and then left the place when Paul Van Dyk closed the main stage at 4 am. Ten hours of joyful electronica seeping through my skin and tickling every organ in my tired body with the bellowing bass of decrepit drums, the dissonant distortion of house and hardstyle, and the temporal tenderness of trance. Can’t you understand that we’ve almost made it to the promise land?
A friend of mine goes to tech school in LA for video production and I hadn’t seen anything he did before he showed me this video. I can’t believe that students crafted something so professionally (special effects are one thing, just concentrate on camera work and quality). If you have 7 minutes check this thing out, it’s even got a lesson at the end:
You can go ahead and read my Audiotistic opinion piece for a taste of how I feel about all things Kandy Kid related, but other than that, same shit, bigger venue. Friday’s lineup wasn’t at all stacked like Saturday’s, but it was filled with just as much fun and games, highlights in picture form were as followed after the jump:
If there’s anything I like coming home to after a night of Ninjasonik, Totally Michael, Boogie Boarder, Team Robespierre, Anamanaguchi, and others it’s a fresh track with Erykah Badu, but color me a second wind if The Roots are on the tune! Just checked in with Questlove via Twitter and it turns out that Erykah hit up the studio before appearing on Fallon Friday night to lay down a cover of “I Wanna Be Where You Are” from MJ’s solo debut LP Got to Be There in 1972 . The perfect track to end your weekend on, enjoy.
Getgot is an animated short by Atlanta Georgia’s Bryan Fordney. Everything in this lonely work is uniquely engaging and perfectly in it’s place. I particularly love the character design and musical themes, both of which seem to have been plucked from the same musty, water-stained cardboard box found in a garage sale of some retired alternate universe. If you like Getgot, then you may also be interested in watching Bryan’s ‘Bee Bog‘, where the same characters are found in a water-color painted music video approach. Bryan is currently working on a stop-motion short set in a post-apocalyptic future featuring a hand-crafted bat as the central character. More of Bryan can be found here. Bee Bog after the jump.
One would never think that something best described as electronica slow jams would be worth your time, but somehow LA-based Mouse Kills Tiger pulls it off. Taking the darker elements of Thom Yorke’s solo albums and adding undertones reminiscent of Massive Attack, Mouse Kills Tiger has created something just a little bit eerie. Light your votive candles, close the blinds, and give it a listen.
Don’t deny it, it’s only the end of June and this summer has been so rad! The only thing radder is that there’s still room left for it to be rad-fucking-tastic. We have proof if you take a peek over to “FMLY PRSNTS” on the left sidebar, fuh real. Anyways, it’s time for one of a few summer mixtapes packed with jams we’ve been pumping non-stop whether it be at home, in the car, or on an assortment of other mixtapes. It’s a long one, but like the measuring tape said to the ruler, “we’re gonna get longer in a bit.”
