Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Madagascar 2) has reportedly been tapped to write and Kevin Lima (Enchanted) to direct Universal Pictures’ live-action film Candy Land, based on the Hasbro board game. Universal Pictures and Hasbro formed a six-year strategic partnership in February 2008 to produce at least four feature films based on some of Hasbro’s toy brands including Monopoly, Candy Land, Clue, Ouija, Battleship, Magic: the Gathering, and Stretch Armstrong.
The deal also stated that the first film would be released in 2010 or 2011, and Universal will release at least one film a year after that. However, no release dates for Candy Land have been announced.
Candy Land will also see Brian Goldner, Hasbro chief executive officer, as producer and Christopher Chase, industry veteran, on board as executive producer, according to Variety.
Hasbro also has film deals with Paramount Pictures for its Transformers and GI Joe brands. [via]
