Aria just sent me the latest from his experimental-pop outfit, Railcars, and I need to express my appreciation for his willingness towards new sound. For reference, the quoted text below comes from previous posts we’ve made on Railcars. “Life Of St Edmund (Ponds)” begins with a dreamy silent narrative between body and sound, the sounds of rocks skipping and splashing into the water set a vast scenery that sets up location and context for “CASTLES.” Jumping right into the shit, “CASTLES” meets old Railcars fans with more intensity and drive for expression while new ears will be undoubtedly pleased at what they’ve just stumbled across.
As I’ve stated in the past on both FMLY and iheartcomix, I’m a big fan of Railcars and Aria Jalali’s unique voice in the Bay Area’s experimental electronic / art pop music scene – especially considering the intense focus on hyphy music…or at least mine.
Think Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, ex-Frog Eyes) with a more awesome setup that includes some electronics…and maybe on acid just to peak your curiosity.
These tracks are the first and second off of Cathedral With No Eyes, Railcars’ Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu) produced album due out, hopefully, this summer. The entire record is one track, a neat approach to contemporary aesthetic and unique to the genre.
Also, if you haven’t already then feel free to download Railcars’ latest EP, Cities vs Submarines, for free right here courtesy of Aria. CvS was recorded in the basement of Xiu Xiu frontman, Jamie Stewart, who produced the EP as well. Railcars is currently working on Cathedral With No Eyes with Stewart as well, an album that I’m certainly anticipating. If you’d call yourself a vagrant for Railcars, then make sure to download their live set from Paris and peep the vids.
