When it comes to our Los Angeles pals I feel like a mother, I’m just so proud of the music that our FRNDS are making. Santa Cruz/S.F. transplants Koalacaust are no exception, having played with Mischief Brew, Paul Baribeau, and Andrew Jackson Jihad these young men are not only living the anti-folk dream but making some of the dankest tunes around.
The dawning of another edition of LA by way of SF/SC’s Koalacaust is upon us and it comes in the form of an 11-track tale of moving on, enabled youth and unforgettable chapters with titles like “Heath Ledger” and “Caulk The Wagon And Float.”
Finding common ground between Wolf Parade and Blink-182 isn’t easy, and if they could have additionally perfected Elliot Babin’s brand of accordion-pop then we’d have an epic summer tour on our hands. Koalacaust’s stellar recordings manage to capture the spirit of their unforgettable live performances and the anxiety of wanting to hear more. The boys will release the album at their MOCA show this Saturday with Nephews, but until then FMLY would like to premiere another track, “Nubian Ibex.”
From the must-be-a-sing-a-long dynamic of “Resolutions” and “Pg 1″ to the darling breather that “Interlude” provides and the feeling of ‘I just gotta rock out right now’ that “Skyscrapers” and “Heath Ledger” never fail to offer, this entire album is rock solid with genuine balls out jams that need to be experienced by all. Best purchase you can make all year to some of the best guys, if mail is how you need to go about it then contact the band via their MySpace. For more info on Saturday’s show, visit the fbook event. In related Nephnews – pun! – there’s a mysterious LP promo vid after the jump.
