We’re DOOMED!!!!!!!!!

WE’RE DOOOOMED!

“til the villian bring deliverance from the dire straights”

Shrouded in metal — disappeared but not forgotten — The triumphant return of DOOM stirs up some eclectic dust that had settled in the back of my brain long ago. It’s not only the man’s flow; it’s the man’s mystique. A veteran to say the least, the persona with the mask offers intangible scenery through syntax; stuck to the top of a hill like the weathered remains of an oak, roots holding fast to his pedestal, the Antichrist for this modern day rap game has began another step in his Operation.

“Fuck up they plans like a blind man look out”

It’s obvious that DOOM has a vice grip on reality, grabbing it by the balls and forcing it to plead for mercy as he verbally slaps it into submission. The man’s persona is so deeply imbedded in different characters that it’s a challenge to even understand some of the underlying song meanings (if any). From his collaborations with Daedalus, Ghostface, Madlib, and Dangermouse (the list goes on and is probably as long as his rhyme book), to his (what I think are) purposeful pranks on his fan base, DOOM seems to have everything under his thumb. It’s no surprise then that when the man resurfaces after 3 years of unknown existence — questions arise. What exactly has he been doing? What does he have hidden under that chromed mask of his? How exactly can you “dig it like a spigot?”

“The rapid fire spark lit
zzzzt!
A rapper bug zapper
And it don’t matter after if they’s a thug or dapper.”

It’s pointless to try and find truths to these questions, as I’m sure he won’t reveal what he’s concocting in that mad laboratory of his. This leaves his loyal fan base to the most exciting opportunity imaginable, entertaining any sort of ludicrous, whacked out, cynical idea comprehensible to man. I think it might be his plan. If life were to follow DOOM’s diatribes of idioms and catch phrases, creativity would be peaking somewhere between Dr. Sues and J.R. Tolken (with the added phonetical obscurity of Burgess’ “a Clockwork Orange.”) But is this all just a mind game? Am I over analyzing? I’d like to explain my stance on the character of Daniel Dumile, and all those skeletons he has locked up in his closet for future use.

“Spittin like a bionic sneeze that freeze vodka
Just to clear the air like the Ionic Breeze Quadra
Sleek enough to outsly a fox
For a chicken pot pie, thinkin outside the box”

It starts with the beginning; it ends there as well. Zev Love X started in this rap game with a family member by his side, only to lose DJ Subroc to a fatal accident. There’s nothing more traumatizing than loosing someone you’re close to, especially if you work/live around them. To this I give my regards, as it’s all I have. KMD (Zev Love X, DJ Subroc, and Onyx the Birthstone Kid) were just about to release an album “Black Bastards” (subsequently release off DOOM’s own label) when the tragedy occurred. Less than a week after the event, KMD’s label, Elektra (Infamous all over this great world of music) dropped the two remaining men into the void of uncertainty. Introversion called, DOOM answered, and like the three-year hiatus today, he ran off into obscurity. Now feel me out on this one, I know I’ve read somewhere that DOOM vowed revenge on all things normal and popular, appropriately, because the culture that had accepted him soon hid their jaded faces behind some plastic phony masks.

“Racist against rappers, they all look the same to him”

The worst thing about this whole story is if DOOM didn’t get treated like a stray dog in Mexico, his beef with popular music wouldn’t be so intense (or entertaining). This is where suffering generates brilliance. The treatment from Elektra was not justified, but it created DOOM. The rapper who doesn’t give a shit and spits rhymes to elevator music – all the while his contemporaries are still trying to create a good ring tone to make a quick buck. DOOM is all that we should hope fame would render, respect for himself more than anything, and it shows. Never have I questioned what DOOM threw at me. Midas Fingered DOOM is what he should be called, everything he collaborates with shines through other futile attempts so brightly, that it looks like homer just wiped a Krusty burger on the wall and the proverbial bird (That’s you “rap”) just smacked into the damn thing so hard it stuck.

“Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they spit”

What DOOM lacks in intensity, he makes up for in sharp rhymes and classical phrases. There’s no loud voice, he preaches with an apathetic curiosity that lends even more to the aura of each piece. In DOOM’s world you have to be able to carry yourself before he’ll try and carry you, because no one carries DOOM, if you touch DOOM you’ll feel the wrath of the name (unless you touch him with an idea.) The name. Beyond the face, beyond the blunted lyricism, DOOM has an utterly unique name, finding solace in classical comic books, when villains really were interesting and when a computer and a screen didn’t run our lifestyle. DOOM has brought this all back. Any of his songs have a multi-faceted glisten to them, acting like an over symbolized piece of literature, where each read gives a deeper understanding to what’s actually going on.

“That’s you if you want a dude who wear a mask all day”

Let this all settle in for a while, DOOM’s a bit much if not taken in moderation. Whether through verbal, visual, or visceral abuse, DOOM will not let anyone escape from him personal vendetta. If you love the man, you have to hate him for not duping his fan base, if you hate the man, you have to love him if only for his uniqueness to the world of Hip-Hop. Here’s to hoping that wikipedia is a legit source for music information…
