This man never ceases to surprise me. Jay-Z gives a drunken karaoke performance of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” at a music festival in Glastonbury this weekend.
Animal Collective recently performed at Norway’s fantastic Hove Festival along with Jay-Z, St. Vincent, The Cool Kids and others. Videos from the festival are sprouting up on Youtube, including “Daily Routine,” a newish Animal Collective song held down by Panda Bear. To watch Animal Collective perform “Dancer” at Hove ‘08, click here. Hopefully news will rise soon concerning a future Animal Collective release as well as when we can expect to hear the AC remix of Ratatat’s “Mirando.”

So 2008 has been dominated by two female rappers, Kid Sister and Amanda Blank. They each have strong ties to the “indie music community” as Muscles would put it and they’re each quite talented…but who really is the best?
Name!
Kid Sister – born Melissa Young – is a name that a lot of people can relate to, but who is Kid Sister really? Well she’s J2K from Flosstradamus‘ Older Sister which clears up why he performs with her, remixes her, and makes cameos in her vids. Kid Sister may not be the most bangable name in the world, but it’s a name with morals and you gotta respect that; family comes first with her.
Amanda Blank’s real name is Amanda Mallory…what? Two first names? It is pretty fucking cute though and Amanda Blank just flows so easily off the tongue.
Winner: AMANDA BLANK – when you’re with a girl you don’t want to constantly be thinking about your Kid Sister.
Crew!
Kid Sister is J2K’s sister (not to be confused with JFK of MSTRKRFT). She is dating A-Trak who is Kanye’s DJ as well as brothers from Dave 1 of Chromeo.
Amanda Blank rolls with Spank Rock and her old pals from Philly and Bmore.
Winner: Kid Sister – if her booming career turns into a dud she has plenty of cushion to fall back on.
Appearance!

Winner: Well the winner is obviously Amanda Blank, she’s bringing the sexy back into dirty. I’m not sure if her and J2K are still dating, I’m sure that they are. Weeeiiiirrrdddd crossover, right? Anyways, Kid Sister was much hotter as a blonde in my opinion.
Videos!
Spank Rock: Loose (feat. Amanda Blank)
Winner: Yeah, I do think that Loose is a much better video, but it’s not Amanda’s and she, believe it or not, has no official videos of her own. I’m gonna have to give this one to Kid Sister.
I’m not even going to begin to analyze rapping style from both women, so this is where we end our contest. But who will be crowned the queen? Well…looking back at the scoreboard it looks as though we have a tie.
The Winner Is…

SANTOGOLD! She’s beautiful, smart, witty and check out her rap stylings in Spank Rock’s B.O.O.T.A.Y. along with Illivia.
If you don’t agree with the outcome, please attend Rock The Bells this year and let me know what you think.

So I’ll admit my irresponsibility when it comes to the Flashback! Party Sequences of the past month, but that will be no more! This week I have a track so hot you’ll be glad that it has taken so long to reach your ears. As “long-time” FMLY readers know, I’m a great lover of Diplo – he’s the greatest in the game. Recently he dropped a Bmore Tribe Called Quest remix entitled “Brew Barrymore” that has been my night-timing anthem of the past couple of weeks. As usual, my only complaint is of the track’s briefness, so I’m including an extremely badass remix by DJ Kue of Rage Against The Machine’s “Bulls On Parade.”

BONUS:
If Lost is your favorite show on television, then this is for you. FMLY FRNDs over at The Hood Internet really know how to keep mashups interesting and the downtime between seasons of Lost exciting. Check out the Youtube vid for MC Luscious vs. Lost.
Have a great weekend!

Adding an entirely new dimension to the mixtape, South Central have recorded a fantastic live set and uploaded it to Youtube for your viewing pleasure. The video is broken into three parts which I highly recommend watching and/or listening to. It’s fascinating to watch a DJ set from behind the stage, but even more so when you see how much work SC put into their unique sound. If you call yourself a fan of electronic music I can not urge you enough to listen to South Central – here is a brand new track, or rather a remix, of the new Sneaky Sound System single, “Pictures.” Enjoy! Seriously…

PART 3:

Can’t wait to hear Beck’s new album Modern Guilt? Now you can listen to some of the songs right now on his myspace and iLike. Enjoy!

Remember Voxtrot? Apparently bassist Jason Chronis (top right) has been double-dipping into another band since ‘05, Belaire, and it looks as though the balancing act has paid off. Bringing their pop-infused electronic jams across the country, Belaire is on the verge of some serious blog love. If you’re in New York, go check out Belaire as they open for wordsmith Jeffrey Lewis at The Cake Shop. I don’t have any mp3’s to share, but please take a listen to Belaire’s MySpace and watch the music video – created by bandmember Danny Reisch’s little sister – for “You Really Got Me Goin’” below. If you like what you hear, check out friends of Belaire, Bear Claws, and enjoy their lighthearted minimalist folk music that Austin, Texas produces so well.
