Fucked Up Fridays

With only fifteen minutes left of Friday, I give you the Kamikaze.

1. You will need vodka, Triple Sec, some limes, a martini shaker, a couple of shot glasses, a knife, and a cutting board.

2. Halve four of these Mexican limes (regular limes: just use two) and place them aside for now.

3. Pour 1/4 part of vodka into your martini shaker.

4. 1/2 part Triple Sec.

5. Squeeze your lime halves into the shaker.

6. Shake.

7. Place a lime halve in the bottom of your shot glass for garnishing.

8. Serve.

9. Briefly admire your work, then bottoms up.

Have a great night and I’ll see you next Fucked Up Friday.

Ratatat Tease A Tour

I’ve come into contact with LP3 (XL) in its entirety and it is phenomenal; I can not wait for this album to be released. As a special surprise, Ratatat will embark on a single week mini-tour making stops in some of the worst venues. The Echoplex? Alright Ratatat, I’ve already driven to Pomona for you, but I don’t know why you just don’t play the Troubadour again. The Music Hall of Williamsburg? I know that’s right around your corner, literally, but why do you have to support the Bowery if you know better. It’s alright Ratatat, I’m still in love.

07/07 – Mon Seattle, WA Chop Suey
07/08 – Tue Portland, OR Holocene
07/10 – Thu San Francisco, CA Slim’s
07/12 – Sat Los Angeles, CA Echoplex
07/15 – Tue Brooklyn, NY Music Hall of Williamsburg

Ratatat – Mirando

Give It Up For M.U.S.I.C.

So I came upon this SymbolOne remix back in February, but lately the song has crept its way back into my head and now I can’t get enough. If you’re into rumors, here’s one: they say that SymbolOne are two long lost twins; one from Ireland and one from Croatia who found each other in ‘07 and decided to create music. Look it up for yourself to find out whether that’s true or not. While you’re at it, enjoy the track.

Nid & Sancy – M.U.S.I.C. (SymbolOne remix)

As long as we’re on the subject of remixes, Animal Collective has re-visioned and remixed Ratatat’s “Mirando.” Until exposed to public ears, all the information available is that it is a “10 minute techno wonder,” according to a recently emailed press release.

Pedro Winter Drops Daft Punk, Weezer News

ITM covered one of the most important interviews of the year, Pedro Winter and his involvement with Daft Punk. After serving as the duo’s manager for 12 years the man in Banger steps down to focus on his label and career plans.

“The boys are in a studio in Paris at the moment,” he revealed to ITM. “And I can’t wait to listen to their new stuff! The good thing is that they are making music at the moment.” While those creative juices are flowing again, it’s not known at this stage when the new album might see the light of day. “They are slow, you know,” Busy P laughed when asked. “They are taking their time, and they have a right.”

Busy P also revealed that he recently decided to step down from the massive task of managing Daft Punk in order to allow him to focus all his energies on the Ed Banger record label. “I’ve stopped working with them really recently, because I want to focus and concentrate on Ed Banger and my artists, and my own career as Busy P.” But after managing Daft Punk for 12 years, it’s a safe bet that the relationship will continue to be a tight one.” [in the mix]

If you haven’t caught a wiff already, watch the Weezer video for “Pork and Beans” above featuring dozens of famous Youtube personalities including Daft Hands. Have a question about Rivers’ mustache? Well he’s quoted saying that his father had a mustache in all of his baby photos, so he’s committed to passing the tradition through his child.

Morning Benders Achieve Perfection

FMLY friends The Morning Benders received an A+ from Campus Circle Magazine’s “Summer Music Guide” released today. Coincidentally, Cameron and I both worked directly for Jeremy Wineberg (The Kutting Room/LAYOUTH/Invisible DJ) featured in the “l.a. faces” section just next to TMB. Click the picture above to read the perfect review. Check out a FMLY interview with The Morning Benders here.

With A Buzz In Our Ears We Play Endlessly

FMLY favorite, Sigur Ros, has announced that their forthcoming, Með suð i eyrum við spilum endalaust / With A Buzz In Our Ears We Play Endlessly (XL), will be released stateside June 24. Released today is the LP’s first single, “Gobbledigook.” Containing a beautiful array of tribal melodies and primitive beats, this had become a personal favorite of mine. The album, co-produced by Sigur Ros and Flood, features contributions by Amiina, a track with 90 people singing, a mellotron and the group’s first song in English. The artwork for the single can be found here and a clip of the NSFW video can be found here. I’m not sure how much of the album was inspired by Ryan McGinley, but from the looks of what we have so far you can expect an orchestrated mess of naked people in the new vid and maybe [hopefully] throughout the rest of the album. Ryan McGinley is an artist in New York City, you can check out his fantastic work here. In the mere hours that “Gobbledigook” has been online an overwhelming response has been received. Comparisons are already being drawn to Animal Collective’s Sung Tongs leaving me to only hope for more of this music from Sigur Ros.

Hannah Montana vs Lustra

[Uh-oh, more copyright issues for Miley?]

In the red corner is Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus with her song “Rock Star,” which I think is a wholesome song about how Hannah Montana is Miley’s rock star.

Rockstar – Hannah Montana

In the blue corner resides Lustra holding onto “Scottie Doesn’t Know,” a song popularized by the movie Eurotrip. Lustra has developed a career solely off of a single song and could stand to make even more.

Scotty Doesnt Know – Lustra

What’s up is that Lustra is suing the Hannah Montana Corp for copyright infringement. The songs due song awfully similar, but it is bound to happen with chords that basic and a harmony that simple. We’ll see what happens in court. FMLY drank beers with Lustra a few years back when they played the Oakgrove benefit show and showcased “Scottie Doesn’t Know” twice in a row. Nice group of guys.
